About Me

Hey Guys, I’m Ashley Basnight, a software engineer with the Boeing Company outside of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and I reside in Norman, Oklahoma. I am originally from Currituck, North Carolina but somehow Oklahoma has swept me away from the place I used to call home. But that doesn't stop me from remaining true to my UNC Tar Heel team! #TarHeelNation.

Many have asked How did "Handmade Haven come about? and I love sharing this story. Back in August of 2016, I was looking for a custom dining table and I could not find anyone in my area to build me one at an affordable price! I was determined to get a custom table and ran across an Instagram page of a woman who built furniture! It was then I came across a woodworking community of cool builders who were committing their lives to furniture making! I first started off repurposing furniture and spent weeks looking at woodworking plans wondering if I to could do it too; after going back and forth in my head, one day I finally just said enough is enough! I have to go for it! So I got up, drove to Home Depot and bought the biggest saw I could find and I built my first dining table with no sort of woodworking background at all;and to my surprise it was pretty good! But I will let you guys be the judge. Here it is!

Building this table was so liberating and I finally felt like I had found "my thing." After this table I started building non-stop and two months down the road I decided to make it official and that's how Handmade Haven LLC was born. There's nothing like stumbling over a passion.

Since then I have loved every bit of this journey. This scripture was spoken over me numerous times and I find GREAT JOY in bringing BEAUTY FROM ASHES.

“and provide for those who grieve in Zion– to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah 61:3

Since I was a little girl, I have always been a handy girl, thanks to my dad! Always working around tools! Even though we were always working on cars, tools never intimidated me and to go along with that, I always had a thing for creativity and art (Thanks MOM) put those two together and you have a woodworking, furniture making, DIY machine! HA! THATS ME!

I look forward to inviting you guys into my world of projects and enjoy seeing my pieces radiate your lives! I hope to inspire you guys to find your inner DIYer and try things you never thought you could achieve.
